B/CS Real Life's Structure

In the March 1996 issue of U.S. Catholic, author Roger O'Brien published an article entitled "4 Ways to Become Holy." Mr. O'Brien explores the idea that every person is drawn to live out one or more of four major spiritual lifestyles, and an example of each lifestyle can be seen by examining the lives and practices of four well-known saints. The four spiritual paths described are the path of Intellect, exemplified by the life of St. Thomas Aquinas, the path of Devotion, lived out by St. Augustine of Hippo, the path of Asceticism, shown through the disciple of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the path of Service, lived out by St. Francis of Assisi. As St. Ignatius, St. John of the Cross, and Mother Teresa have all expressed, it is a mistake to assume that Christ leads all people to Him in the same way. We are all different, and by exploring which path or paths best suit our individual talents and temperaments, each of us can build a relationship with Christ in our own unique way.

Following this model, B/CS RealLife provides group events each month designed to cater to the range of religious needs and temperaments found among young adults. Our events are throughout the Fall and Spring semesters with some Summer events. Our event themes rotate through talks, socials, devotionals, and service events.

Our speaker series, Theology on Tap, is designed to bring a greater intellectual understanding of Catholicism to our members with topics that center on contemporary events and issues which impact young adults in today’s world.

Socials

Getting to know your peers and building friendships is a fundamental part of everybody’s life. Our social events are designed to bring young adults together in a fun, relaxing, and constructive environment. Our social functions cover a wide range of interests from dinner and a movie to game nights or sporting events. Whether indoors or outdoors, night or day, B/CS RealLife’s socials are built to appeal to a wide variety of tastes and schedules.

Serving others, especially those in our world who are most in need, is a key part of Catholic life.  As Christ teaches us in Matthew, Chapter 25: “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” In a very real way, we provide opportunities for our members to feed and clothe the poor, care for the sick, welcome the lonely, and visit the imprisoned and isolated.

Whether your faith life finds its greatest expression through large group settings or smaller individualistic settings, through interior focus or exterior focus, through meditative prayer time or lively discussion, come be a part of B/CS RealLife!
